French photographer Robert Doisneau (1912-1994) was walking in Paris when he saw aspiring actors Françoise Delbart (age 20) and Jacques Carteaud (age 23) kissing. He proposed to the charming young couple to pose for the camera and asked if they would kiss again. They then posed for him in different places in Paris, at Place de la Concorde, Rue de Rivoli and in front of the Hôtel de Ville. Life magazine first published the photograph in 1950 without including the names of the kissers.
