The giant airship Hindenburg made history with its first transatlantic flight in May of 1936. Nearly the size of the Titanic, it was the largest airship ever built and a crowning achievement of its age. The 245 m dirigible filled with over 200,000 m3 of hydrogen moved through the air powered by four 1,064 cv diesel engines. Therefore, it had a top speed of 132 km/h, a range in excess of 13,000 km and it could lift 112 tons beyond its own weight, an incredible amount for that time.
